In yesterday’s Where in the World Wednesday, I was at Good Son’s in Beaverdale; latitude: 41.620311, longitude: -93.673097. Or you could find it the old fashioned way. Ask at a gas station. [2805 Beaver Avenue]
First things first, Happy Hour is 11:00-6:00pm daily with $2.75-$3.75 domestic beer, $3 well drinks, and $3.75-$4.50 import/specialties. It’s a nice little neighborhood restaurant/bar with regulars cozying up to the bar. The food is very good and reasonably priced.
I’ve had the following three items and have been pleasantly surprised each time, probably because it seems more bar than restaurant.
- Margherita Panini – Basil pesto, fresh pepperonata, Roma tomatoes and mozzarella. Yum!
- Evil chicken | Add “stupid evil” option for $2. Chicken breast, jalapeños, Roma tomatoes, banana peppers, mayo, pepper jack and their secret spices. The “stupid evil” option is also a secret and according to the menu, it makes your mouth feel stupid. I did not have the stupid option but the regular one was amazing!
- Berry Panini – Raspberries, mascarpone, honey and whipped cream. Ordering this was a no-brainer.
Definitely worth a trip or five.
Oh, the T-shirt. I did not row at Notre Dame. I rowed with the Des Moines Rowing Club. At regattas we’d swap team Ts. That’s how a lapsed Catholic came to be wearing a Notre Dame Crew shirt. More about that tomorrow…
