I’ve tried several types – scissors, clippers and rotary.

Summertime, and the shaving is easy…[05.08.15]

To help you ready your skin for summer, here are two shaving products I highly recommend.

The  Venus Swirl Razor. It operates so smoothly, you would have to try to cut yourself. If you don’t want to splurge on this particular model, the other Venus razors are just as good but without the contouring swivel.

Now you’ve got your razor, time to get a shaving oil, L’Occitane Cleansing and Softening Shower Oil with Almond. While it is a shower oil, i use it in particular when shaving. It is so luxurious, leaving your skin baby soft. But without the diaper smell. In fact, it has a soft almond fragrance. Lovely.

Where in the World Wednesday – (Thursday) [04.30.15]

In yesterday’s post I was at Louie’s Wine Dive-Des Moines. Note: When you go to the site, it states Urbandale. It’s actually more in the Drake Area. Marketing.

This was my first gimlet taste-test and I failed to request the control, Bombay Sapphire. In spite of that, the gimlet was quite tasty. Served on the rocks, without asking my preference, it had just the right amount of tartness. Freshly squeezed lime juice was used along with a little sweetener, likely simple syrup.  At the Happy Hour price of $4 it was one helluva deal.

Ah, Wisconsin [04.28.15]

My friend, John, and I just returned from the most wonderful road trip to Wisconsin, in spite of the grueling start.

This snapshot at the Madison Union is the Reader’s Digest version of the vacation. A good time was had by all.


Iowa is in fact the windiest state in Lower 48. I can attest to this after being ruthlessly whipped around on the drive from Des Moines to Iowa City Wednesday afternoon. But, after that, the drive both to and back from Wisconsin was uneventful.

We spent Wednesday night in Iowa City, dining at the marvelous slow-dining farm-to-table Devotay.

One word: Paella.


But, back to Wisconsin.

Thursday we dined at a local favorite, Delavan’s own Hernandez. Friday we traipsed around Delavan and Lake Geneva, dining at Sprecher’s. That night, we enjoyed a traditional Friday night Fish Fry at Delavan’s Duck Inn. Oh my!

We did, indeed…

Saturday was spent in Madison: Farmer’s Market, Memorial Union, Monona Terrace, and State Street with lunch at The Great Dane.  We left for home Sunday morning. Full. Giddy. Exhausted.

The drink. Bombay Sapphire Gimlet made with muddled lime and lime agua fresca. $7.50

The review: Tasty. Sort of a Latin spin on the gimlet. Ranks right up there with the better gimlets I’ve had. I’d order it again. Served “up” by default. Good call!
